Honor Roll

Christian's class takes spelling tests every week and they include 5 "challenge" words that were not studied or given out beforehand. If they spell all 5 challenge words correctly, they get a certificate for a free Arby's kids meal. (Did you even know that Arby's had kids meals???) Anyway, we have a stack of these free Arby's meals, because we don't make it to Arby's every week and he's great at spelling. He came home now with a Honor Roll certificate!!! All A's!!!! I was so excited and proud of him! Then I saw that they attached a certificate for a free shake at Applebee's. Is this the new thing; for teachers to reward kids with food for their good grades and effort? I remember them using Pizza Hut pan pizzas to get us to read in Book It! or having a popcorn party if the whole class did well. It seems that they are encouraging fast food and desserts these days, but what does that say about our kids that we have to motivate them with food???
